How to prepare for your appointment

  • Bring your ID card or another form of identification.
  • Write down or think about your main complaints and any questions you want to discuss with the medical staff.
  • Be ready to describe your symptoms: when they started, how severe they are, and what relieves or worsens them.
  • For ear irrigation, it is recommended to use earwax-softening drops, available from a pharmacy, for 3-5 days beforehand.
  • No other special preparation is needed unless you have been told otherwise.

What should I do if a tick has bitten me?

If you find a tick, remove it immediately with tweezers or a tick remover from the pharmacy, grasping the tick close to the skin and pulling it out carefully. Clean the bite area with soap and water. Monitor the bite site and your health, and see a doctor if a large red spot appears on the skin or if you feel ill.

When is ear irrigation not performed?

Your ear should not be irrigated if you have a perforated eardrum, an ear infection, or have recently had ear surgery. It should also not be done if you have special tubes (grommets) in your ear or if a foreign object has entered it. Always ask a doctor for advice beforehand to avoid problems.
