Implant-supported full dentures
Unlike a conventional removable denture, which stays in place only through the anatomy of the gums and suction created by saliva, an implant-supported prosthesis is attached to titanium implants (artificial roots) placed in the jawbone. This provides full stability and prevents the denture from moving or falling out.

How to prepare for your appointment
- You may only attend surgery when you are healthy, as the body may struggle to cope with multiple issues during illness and recovery may be more difficult. Surgery will also be postponed in the case of active cold sores (herpes labialis).
- You should eat a full meal before the procedure. You should also take any medications prescribed for your general health.
- Do not smoke before surgery.
What to expect during your appointment
Consultation and planning
The oral condition is assessed, X-rays and 3D CT scans are performed, and a treatment plan is created. If needed, a removable denture is prepared as a surgical guide.

The dentist explains the procedure, healing period, and provides instructions for post-operative care.
Implant placement
Implants are surgically placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia. The surgeon places 4 or 6 titanium implants in strategic positions, often angling the posterior implants to maximize available bone.
Temporary prosthesis placement
In most cases, a screw-retained temporary bridge is placed on the implants either the same day or the next day.
Healing period (osseointegration)
The patient wears the temporary prosthesis for about 5–6 months while the implants integrate with the bone. A soft diet is required during this period.
Final prosthesis placement
After complete healing, the temporary bridge is replaced with a permanent, highly durable and aesthetic full-arch prosthesis.
