How to prepare for your appointment
- The health check must be completed no more than three months before you apply for an acquisition permit, or before applying for the firearms license if an acquisition permit is not required.
- Bring your ID card or another form of identification.
- Make sure your previous health data (e.g., diagnoses, medications, test results) and the psychiatrist’s assessment for the acquisition permit or firearms license are available in the national e-Health Portal, or bring the results with you to the appointment.
- Think about any questions you would like to ask the doctor.
- If you use them, bring your glasses or contact lenses, hearing aids, and any prosthetics.
- If possible, schedule your appointment for the morning so you can fast from the previous evening.
- Avoid coffee, energy drinks, and smoking before your visit, as they can affect your blood pressure and other results.
What to expect during your appointment
Document check and health declaration
We will check your ID. You will then fill out a health declaration form at the clinic.
Nurse’s appointment
A nurse will measure your weight, height, blood pressure, and blood sugar, and will test your vision.
Doctor’s appointment
The doctor will perform an additional medical examination. Afterwards, you will discuss your health status, test results, medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle.
Additional tests (if needed)
For certain health problems, we may refer you for additional tests or a specialist consultation before the health certificate can be issued.
Issuing the health certificate
If you pass the health check and there are no medical reasons [contraindications] that would prevent you from getting a license, we will issue you a paper copy of the health certificate.
