Medical Certificate for a Driver
A medical check-up is necessary to obtain or renew a driver’s medical certificate. During the check-up, your health is assessed to ensure that your condition allows you to drive safely for yourself and others.
When to see a specialist
- Renewing a medical certificate. If your previous medical certificate is expiring or has already expired, you can apply to renew it with us.
- Applying for a new driving licence. A medical certificate is a mandatory document when applying for your first driving licence.
- Changing a driving licence category. If you wish to add new driving licence categories, a new medical certificate may be required.
- Health problems. If you have health problems, it is important to ensure, among other things, that they do not prevent you from driving safely.
Motor vehicle categories
We offer the issuance and renewal of medical certificates for drivers of the following motor vehicle categories:
- C, CE, D and DE categories. Medical certificates for heavy vehicle and bus drivers.
- A, AM, B and BE categories. Medical certificates for motorcycle, moped and passenger car drivers.
How to prepare for your appointment
- Bring your ID card or another form of identification.
- Make sure your previous health data (e.g., diagnoses, medications, test results) are available in the national health portal, or bring the results with you to the appointment.
- Think about any questions you want to ask the doctor.
- Fill in the digital health declaration in the national health portal beforehand, but no earlier than 30 days before the doctor’s appointment.
- Bring your glasses or contact lenses if you use them.
- If at all possible, plan your medical certificate appointment for the morning so you can fast from the previous evening.
- Avoid coffee, energy drinks, and smoking before the visit, as they can affect measurements like your blood pressure.
What to expect during your appointment
Document check and health declaration
We will check your identification document and review your completed digital health declaration.
Nurse’s appointment
We will measure your weight, height, neck circumference, blood pressure, and blood sugar, and check your vision.
Doctor’s appointment
We will discuss your health condition, test results, illnesses, medications, and lifestyle.
Additional tests (if necessary)
For certain health problems, we may refer you for additional tests or a specialist consultation before the medical certificate can be issued.
Issuing the medical certificate
If you have passed the medical check-up and no contraindications have been found in your health condition, we will issue you a digital medical certificate, which will be visible to you in the national health portal and the Transport Administration’s self-service portal.
