Soon-to-open Rävala clinic receives its MRI machine
The long-awaited MRI machine has arrived at the soon-to-open Rävala clinic, significantly boosting our diagnostic capabilities and enabling an even more complete treatment pathway for patients.
Meliva (formerly Qvalitas and Unimed), which is opening the largest private medical centre in central Tallinn at the start of the new year, has purchased a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine costing close to one million euros. The equipment was installed at the clinic under construction in the office building at Rävala puiestee 5.
Meliva is investing close to seven million euros in building the new clinic. “The MRI machine that’s arrived significantly boosts our diagnostic capabilities and allows us to offer clients an even more complete treatment pathway than before. We’re seeing a growing need for MRI scans within the Estonian healthcare system. Establishing MRI capability in one of Tallinn’s districts with the largest working-age population will help assess patients’ health more quickly and precisely,” said Meliva Chief Medical Officer Dr Andreas Abel.
According to Dr Abel, the MRI machine can be used for examinations across many specialties, but mainly in orthopaedics and neurology. For example, it can be used to more precisely diagnose joint and muscle injuries. Unlike X-ray or CT scanning, MRI doesn’t use ionising radiation.
Around 150 medical specialists will work at Meliva’s new clinic. “Across nearly 3,000 square metres, we’re bringing together all of our services: primary care, specialist care, dental care, and occupational health services. Among other things, we’re also building an aesthetic medicine centre within the clinic. Bringing together more than 25 specialties under one roof speeds up our patients’ treatment pathway, making it possible to conveniently carry out many examinations and procedures in a single location,” explained Meliva board member Tõnu Velt.
Qvalitas Arstikeskus and Unimed Hambakliinikud have been operating under the shared Meliva name and brand since this autumn. Meliva forms Estonia’s largest network of private clinics, offering the market’s broadest range of private healthcare services. The medical company has a total of 22 locations, five specially equipped medical buses, and the Digikliinik app, which enables remote consultations. The company employs close to 800 people, with close to 350,000 visits made to its clinics each year. Meliva is part of the Finnish healthcare company Mehiläinen, which has more than a century of experience.
