UVB phototherapy
UVB phototherapy (ultraviolet therapy) is an effective treatment method for several chronic skin diseases, including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, prurigo nodularis, vitiligo, and some other dermatoses. UVB radiation helps reduce skin inflammation, which is the main problem in many chronic skin diseases.
When to see a specialist
- Psoriasis: A chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes red, scaly, and itchy patches.
- Atopic dermatitis: A chronic skin condition characterized by dry, sensitive, and itchy skin.
- Prurigo nodularis: A chronic skin condition causing intense itching and firm, itchy nodules.
- Vitiligo: A pigment disorder that causes well-defined light or white patches on the skin.
- Other chronic forms of dermatitis: Long-term inflammatory skin conditions that may cause itching, redness, and skin irritation.
- Skin conditions suitable for phototherapy: Skin conditions whose symptoms may improve with UVB phototherapy.

How to prepare for your appointment
- First, you need to book an appointment with a dermatologist. The dermatologist will assess the severity of the disease, the suitability of medications and creams used with phototherapy, rule out the presence of dangerous birthmarks and skin formations, and determine the dosage and frequency of treatment. A referral is required.
- Younger patients with atopic dermatitis can also be referred for treatment by allergists. Dermatologists or allergists from other clinics can also refer to the service.
