Meliva acquires Katriito mental health clinics
Estonia's leading private healthcare company, Meliva, is acquiring Katriito, a mental health service provider with long-standing experience, to expand its range of services and strengthen its team with top mental health specialists.
With more than 40 leading specialists joining the existing team, this makes Meliva the largest private-sector provider of mental health care in Estonia. The expanded service offering will include new consultations, assessments, and training programmes, for both private and business clients.
“Katriito joining Meliva is an important step toward an even more complete healthcare service,” confirmed Meliva Chairman of the Board Marja-Liisa Alop. “Society’s growing mental health challenges mean these services need to be an integral part of healthcare. Integrated care means a patient doesn’t have to seek help from multiple places — it’s simpler and more convenient for them,” Alop said.
Key members of the Katriito team are also joining Meliva — CEO Anna Helena Ursula Malkovskaja, who will go on to lead the mental health division at Meliva as well, and Triinu Niiberg-Pikksööt, one of Katriito’s co-founders. Niiberg-Pikksööt said the goal is to combine the strengths of Katriito and Meliva. “Nothing will change directly for Katriito’s current patients, but joining a larger healthcare organisation will also improve their access to a wider range of specialists and services,” she added.
The deal takes effect on 15 September, with the merging of the two service portfolios set to be completed by January 2026; until then, clients will continue to be served as before. Further information will be shared on an ongoing basis on both the Meliva and Katriito websites and social media channels.
Founded in 2008, Katriito employs around 40 mental health specialists. In 2024, the clinic provided close to 10,000 appointment slots. The clinic offers evidence-based treatment and psychological counselling in Tallinn, Tartu, and online across Estonia, and also runs its own training centre. Katriito is a contracted partner of Tervisekassa (the Estonian Health Insurance Fund) and the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund for psychological counselling services.
