Meliva’s parent company Mehiläinen expands into Norway and Denmark through acquisition, strengthens presence in Sweden
Mehiläinen, the Finnish healthcare and social welfare group and parent company of Meliva, Estonia's largest private healthcare provider, has signed an agreement to acquire Aleris, a healthcare company operating a network of nearly 100 clinics and hospitals across Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant authorities.
Once completed, the acquisition will expand Mehiläinen’s existing service offering in Sweden, while its entry into the Norwegian and Danish markets will position the group to improve access to quality medical care and deliver increasingly advanced healthcare solutions across the Nordic region.
Headquartered in Stockholm, Aleris is a specialist healthcare provider operating in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, with a focus on elective surgery, mental health, and medical diagnostics. Aleris clinics handle an average of more than 3.8 million patient visits per year, and the company employs 5,300 healthcare and other professionals.
Aleris’s specialist care is characterized by high quality and strong accessibility, with the company demonstrating strong results in both patient feedback and core quality indicators. Aleris serves all client groups and maintains long-standing partnerships with both the public healthcare sector and private insurers.
Following the merger with Aleris, the Mehiläinen Group will grow to approximately 60,000 employees, providing healthcare services at more than 1,500 locations across 9 countries to nearly 6 million patients. The Mehiläinen Group’s revenue last year (pro forma) reached €3.7 billion. Mehiläinen is one of Europe’s leading private healthcare providers, focused on integrated outpatient healthcare services and a pioneer in the application of digital solutions and artificial intelligence in healthcare.
Meliva Estonia is the largest private healthcare provider in Estonia, with approximately 1,000 employees, 23 locations, five specially equipped medical buses, and the Digikliinik, which enables remote consultations. In 2025, driven by the addition of new services and increased volume, Meliva Estonia grew its revenue by 11 percent to €62.3 million, reaching a net profit of €2.2 million.
