Adult dental care

Each person’s teeth are unique. The best way to find out how you should care for your teeth is to come to a dentist’s consultation. The dentist will assess your risk of tooth decay and gingivitis and give recommendations to improve your oral hygiene, if necessary. Early detection of oral issues makes it significantly easier to resolve them.

Cavities or caries are one of the most common reasons for dental treatment. If cavities are left untreated, microbes end up on the tooth pulp or nerves, causing pain and major issues.

Therefore, you should start treatment as soon as possible after the issue arises. We will use local anaesthesia on patients if they request it to avoid any unpleasant sensations. After cleaning the cavity we fill it with a filling that matches the tooth’s look and strength.

Modern treatment

For us, it is crucial that patients have an overview of the activities during treatment. Some Unimed offices utilise special cameras that allow patients to see what is going on in their mouths on a screen. A microscope that magnifies details dozens of times greatly facilitates treatment, allowing the dentist to perform fine-tuned work and ensure that the result is perfect.

The importance of check-ups

You should check for tooth decay before problems arise. A check-up every six months is a good idea. If you already have problems, you should contact our reception as soon as possible and we will quickly find an appointment for you.

Three useful habits for oral hygiene

Use other tools in addition to the toothbrush. A toothbrush alone is not enough to properly clean your teeth. Your dental hygiene kit should include several tools: it is good to use dental floss or interdental brushes, tongue scraper, and mouthwash daily.

Pay attention to your diet and choose the right time for brushing your teeth. For good oral health, you should have longer breaks between meals and avoid snacking in-between. This allows saliva to remineralise any damages after an acid attack. In the morning, you should brush your teeth before breakfast, as acids in food soften the tooth enamel temporarily and the toothbrush may damage it. Where possible, leave at least 30 minutes between brushing your teeth and eating.

Visit a dental hygienist for soda blasting annually. Unfortunately, even if your oral hygiene is perfect, there are areas of your mouth that you cannot reach with a toothbrush or floss. Go to a dental hygienist’s appointment 1–2 times a year for deep cleaning to remove tartar, pigment spots, and plaque. Plaque is removed from underneath and on top of the gums with handheld instruments and an ultrasound device which essentially shakes the plaque loose. Soda blasting removes discoloration and tartar from teeth. Soda blasting does not whiten teeth, but it does bring out their natural colour and thus gives a slight whitening effect.
