Aesthetic dentistry
Clearly not everyone needs to have the perfect Hollywood smile. However, if there is something you don't like about your teeth, there are a variety of procedures to choose from. Modern dentistry offers both simple and more complex aesthetic solutions. For example, if you have darker coloured but beautifully shaped teeth, soda blasting and/or teeth whitening can be enough. To restore teeth that are misshapen and unevenly aligned, thin shells of porcelain called veneers are placed on the teeth.
Aesthetic dentistry starts with good oral health
To achieve a radiant smile, it is important to start with an overall oral health assessment, which may involve a multidisciplinary approach. The most common oral health issues are tooth decay (also known as cavities) and root canal infections. Likewise, gum and jaw health is important, as the gums act as a framework around the teeth, allowing the teeth to be held in the desired position in the jaw. There is no point in talking about aesthetics if the tissues in the mouth are not healthy.
