Maxillofacial surgery

Removal of wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth are removed with local anaesthesia. In the course of the surgery, bone is removed from around the tooth and the tooth is drilled into smaller bits, if necessary. The wound is stitched. Whether the wisdom tooth surgery is simple or complex and how long it takes to recover depends on the tooth’s position and the individual patient.

Frenectomy

The necessity to correct lip-tie or tongue-tie is determined at a dentist’s, orthodontist’s, or speech therapist’s appointment. For many children, frenectomy is performed during infancy. Our specialists perform frenectomies in very difficult cases, where the lip-tie or tongue-tie interrupts a patient’s speech or everyday life. The surgery can be performed with local or general anaesthesia.

Tooth’s root tip/cyst removal

The goal of removing a tooth’s root tip is to apply microbe-resistant root filling and treat an infection under the tooth’s root. The bone and tooth’s root tip are removed with a drill and infected tissues are cleaned or the cyst is removed. The wound is stitched and the stitches are removed in a week. The surgery is carried out with local anaesthesia.

Plastic surgery of bone and soft tissues

Unimed performs all kinds of bone and gum grafting before and after implantation. The specialists in our clinic have acquired the most complex techniques in transplanting the patient’s own bone which is preferred over using synthetic bone crafts that are very common in clinics in Estonia. The surgery is done using general anaesthesia.
