Dental crowns and bridges

Dental crowns restore the appearance and function of teeth

Dental crowns are caps made of artificial materials in the lab that restore destroyed dental tissue and the tooth’s appearance. Crowns are usually finished in two appointments.

In the first visit, part of the tooth enamel is removed to ensure that the crowns have enough room, dental impressions are taken, and a temporary crown is placed to protect your teeth. In the second visit, the finished crown is bonded to your tooth using dental cement. Aesthetic and strong biomaterials – mainly zirconium oxide and porcelain – are nowadays used to make crowns. These require very little tooth preparation or processing and look natural.

Complete row of teeth with a dental bridge

Dental bridges can be attached to the adjacent teeth to replace a missing tooth. This replaces one or more missing teeth, forming a ‘bridge’ over the gap. Enamel of the adjacent teeth needs to be removed and crowns added. A dental bridge is used in cases where implantation is not possible to replace a missing tooth.
